La Ribera, Baja California Sur — April 2026
In celebration of Día del Niño, more than 150 children and their families gathered in La Ribera, East Cape, for a vibrant and successful kids fishing tournament that brought together community, sportfishing, and the next generation of anglers.
The event was made possible through a collaborative effort between FONMAR, a local school in La Ribera, the regional fishing cooperative, and Tag Cabo Sportfishing. Together, they created a meaningful experience focused on education, outdoor activity, and community engagement.

A Day Focused on Family, Fishing, and the Future
The tournament welcomed children of all ages, many of whom experienced fishing for the very first time. Parents, local captains, and volunteers played a key role in guiding participants throughout the day, ensuring a safe, fun, and educational environment.
Beyond competition, the event emphasized:
- Respect for the ocean
- Responsible fishing practices
- The importance of outdoor activities for youth
The atmosphere reflected the true spirit of Baja—community-driven, family-oriented, and deeply connected to the sea.

Events like this play a crucial role in introducing younger generations to sportfishing while reinforcing values of conservation and sustainability.

A Collaborative Community Effort
The success of the event highlights the strength of partnerships between local institutions like Fonmar, fishing organisation like Federacion de Coop. Pesquera del Sur, and private sector contributors.
