1. Editorial Mission & Regional Scope

Cabo Sportfishing Magazine is an online news publication covering sportfishing, fishing reports, tournaments, conservation and the marine industry in Baja California Sur. Our coverage area is Los Cabos (Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo), the East Cape, La Paz, Loreto and Magdalena Bay, plus the offshore grounds fished from those ports.

Every fishing report is dated and states the period it covers. We do not republish old reports as current conditions.

2. Editorial Independence & Sponsored Content

News decisions are made by the editors, not by advertisers. Advertising, charter sponsorships and paid partnerships never buy coverage, change a result, or remove accurate reporting.

Paid or sponsored articles carry a visible disclosure label at the top of the story. Ownership connections are disclosed too: the magazine is owned by Arturo Chacón, and stories involving businesses connected to him say so near the top.

Gear reviews: when a manufacturer supplies a product, we say so. Supplying gear does not guarantee a review or a positive one, and affiliate links are labeled.

3. Fact-Checking & Catch Verification Standards

We report weights, results and payouts only when they come from an official source: the tournament's weigh-master, official leaderboard or results announcement (for example Bisbee's or ORSAN events), or a dock weigh slip we have seen. Where a record claim is involved, we refer to IGFA rules and say whether a catch has actually been certified or is only pending.

Unconfirmed claims — a dockside rumor, a social media post, an estimated weight — are either left out or clearly labeled as unconfirmed. We never invent catches, numbers, quotes or conditions.

How We Verify Catch Claims

  • Weigh-master verification — official tournament weights and leaderboards.
  • Scale certification — weights from a recognized, calibrated scale; record claims reported against IGFA rules.
  • Captain and crew confirmation — captain's log, crew accounts and photos to confirm boat, time and species.

4. Maritime & Government Agency Sourcing

For port closures, weather, safety incidents and fisheries regulation, we rely on the responsible authority and name it in the story:

  • Capitanía de Puerto — port openings and closures.
  • SEMAR (Secretaría de Marina) — search and rescue and maritime safety.
  • FONMAR — marina and port-infrastructure matters in Baja California Sur.
  • CONAPESCA — fishing permits, regulations and catch rules.
  • National Hurricane Center / SMN — storm forecasts, cited with the advisory time.

Time-sensitive safety information is dated, and when it changes we update the story with a timestamped note.

5. Corrections & Retractions Policy

  1. Send the error and your evidence (weigh slip, official result, document) to the editors.
  2. An editor checks it against the original source.
  3. If we got it wrong, we fix the story and add a dated correction note explaining what changed.
  4. Serious errors that undermine a story may lead to a retraction, which is noted publicly rather than silently deleted.
