Arturo Chacón

For Arturo Chacón, the ocean is both a passion and a place of constant discovery. An angler, captain and entrepreneur based in Cabo San Lucas, he is the founder and owner of Cabo Sportfishing Magazine. His love of fishing—and his desire to understand the waters and wildlife of Baja California Sur—are at the heart of the publication.

A LIFE OF LEARNING ON THE WATER

Since starting his sportfishing charter company in 2009, Arturo has spent years studying boats, marine technology, ocean currents and ocean conservation. Each trip offers another opportunity to learn about Baja’s species, its changing waters and the impact people have on the marine environment.

He participates in the Gray Taxidermy tagging program to learn more about local fish species and deepen his understanding of fishing’s impact. For Arturo, time on the water is not only about the catch; it is also about paying attention, asking questions and respecting the ocean.

SHARING BAJA’S STORIES

Years of documenting his fishing trips have helped Arturo build a following on social media and YouTube. Sharing those experiences attracted sponsorships and gave him another way to connect with people who love fishing and the ocean. That same curiosity and enthusiasm inform Cabo Sportfishing Magazine: stories about the places, species, people and discoveries that make Baja worth exploring.

One particularly memorable journey took him to Cedros Island to fish and learn more about the Baja peninsula and its species. During the trip, Arturo and his fellow fishermen rescued a dog they found swimming offshore. The rescue drew coverage from People—a moment from his travels that reached well beyond the fishing community.

Arturo is president of the Big Game Federation in La Baja, part of the Asociación de Pescadores Deportivos Sudcalifornianos. He is also included in the association’s operator listing.
